The UK’s Halfpenny Rose Red (1870)
The United Kingdom’s version of Bantams dates back to 1870 with the release of the Halfpenny Rose Red stamp, the smallest postage stamp ever issued in the country. Measuring a mere 17.5 mm × 14 mm, it was introduced after postal rates for newspapers and postcards were reduced. Nicknamed Bantams due to their diminutive size, these line-engraved stamps depicted Queen Victoria in profile and were printed in sheets of 480.
